It dawned on her that her brother was the caller and the catalyst behind my speed minutes ago. Jake couldn’t fathom the reason for her hysterical laughter. She stopped abruptly when she saw the look on my face. Apparently, we had grown so fond of each other that we knew what every look meant.

“You busy?” He asked me.

“No, I am not.” I answered.

“Dee, can I steal your roommate away for a few minutes?” He asked.

“Of course; she’s all yours.” She answered almost immediately.

“I would be back shortly.” I said.

“Take all the time you need.” She responded.

Brunch was sumptuous. I didn’t realize that I was hungry till I began to dig into the large piece of chicken and chips on my plate. We talked about a lot of things as we ate.

“… so I was thinking” He began.

“Okay” I said and asked, “About?”

“About us.” He answered.

“What about us?” I asked.

“I think we should take our friendship to the next level.” He answered.

“How do you mean?” I asked.

I needed lucidness.
