What or who is the Word

What or Who is the Word?

John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God 2. The same was in the beginning with God 3. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.

For us to understand this Scripture, let’s go to the beginning (Genesis 1). Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light… Now we know that God is Trinity; that is, the God Head consists of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In Genesis 1:1, God the Father was introduced. In Genesis 1:2, God the Holy Spirit was introduced. He was said to have moved upon the face of the waters. Even though God saw that the earth was without form and void, nothing happened until God said in verse 3.

What God said was the Word which went forth for everything to begin to take shape. When God saw that the earth wasn’t what it was supposed to be, He spoke the Word which was the Catalyst for the earth to take form. In Genesis 1, as God spoke the Word, He saw what He spoke.

First Lesson: Don’t say what you see. Say what you want to see so that what you say becomes what you see. Have you ever pondered why one would have a headache and once you say you’re feeling sick, the sickness comes naturally? That’s the product of what you said.

Second Lesson: Nothing would happen until you speak the Word. In the realm of spirit, silence is as good as agreeing to a situation.

Back to John 1:1-2. Often times, Jesus is referred to as the Word in the Scriptures. Now we can see that the Trinity was at work in the creation story. The Word which became flesh and dwelt amongst us in verse 14 of John 1 is Jesus.

John 1:4 In Him was Life and the Life was the light of men.
Jesus is the Word that makes everything to become. Remember the earth was dark and void. When the Word went forth, life came to being. The Word gave life to every dead thing that was in the world. The life here could also be seen as eternal life.

Also, remember that at creation, the breath God breathed into man’s nostrils was the Breath of Life. When Christ gave His Life, it became our light to guide us on the way. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Often times, when His Word goes forth, it is to aid us to know what we should do per time. Oftentimes, His Word goes forth to caution us, encourage us amongst others.

For example, you’re walking on a tarred road at dusk. You can barely see the road. Then the Holy Spirit or your intuition tells you to be careful that there is a ditch ahead. If you take caution, you will not get hurt. A better example is this – you want money and you know that you don’t know anyone that would be of financial assistance to you. Then you decide to study the Word (the Bible) hoping to get some answers or to pacify yourself.

Then you come across Psalm 23:1 – The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. This verse strikes a chord. You read it over and over again. You get to a point where you think – oh! That means money included. So I am not permitted to want money. Then you come across Philippians 4:13 – And my God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (personalized). You have caught light! That means you’re not permitted to be stranded! You have got a rich God who would bring money to you. Then you begin to thank God for the assurance that He has provided your needs notwithstanding the uncertainty of how it would happen.

You may want to ask ‘How do I know the Scripture(s) that speaks about my situation?’ Thank God for Google. Just type- Scripture that talks about… and hit the search icon. It would bring them out for you.

I hope you have learnt a thing or two from this.
I have come to realize that the first chapter of John is very broad.
I can’t say it all; I would be grateful if you leave a Rhema you have caught in John 1 in the comment section below.
