In The Hollow Of His Hand
Pop was drowning and I was not there to save him; nobody was. A bead of sweat had formed on my forehead. Immediately, I messaged Pop to make sure he was okay. He responded in the affirmative. Bella had already replied my message. She wished me a happy resumption and she told me that she would give me a call at dusk.
Boredom sent me to dreamland almost immediately. The sound of the door woke me up; my roommate had arrived.
I observed for two minutes and I could tell that she was royalty; one who chose to attend this school because she needed to be away from home. I greeted her mum and everyone else in her entourage.
“Hello, I am Charis; your roommate. You are?” I asked.
“Hiya, I am Dianne. Pleased to meet you.” She replied in a polished British accent and with a smile.
“Same here. Settle in; we have a lot of time to interact with each other.” I said and returned the smile. I needed to sleep back if i didn’t want a headache.
“I look forward to that with pleasure.” She replied.
With that, I lay in bed pondering on what Pop was up to. I soon dozed off.
Two hours later, I awoke upon hearing the sound of a bell. I wondered what the bell was for since there wasn’t any place of worship beside my house. I scuffled to open my eyes in a bid to check the time. It was seven in the evening. I looked around my room as none of what I saw looked like my bedroom. Then it hit me – I was in school! I reluctantly stood up.
“Welcome back to Planet Earth.” Dianne greeted.
“Thanks roomie. Have you had any sleep?” I replied and asked whilst heading to the bathroom to wash my face.
“Nope I haven’t. I couldn’t. I’ve been arranging my things.” She responded.
“Okay. I think it is time for dinner; let us head to the cafeteria.” I said as I slipped into my casual evening wear.
