In The Hollow Of His Hand
Episode 30
Are You Dating Pop?
“I have been wanting to ask you since you didn’t give me a feedback…”
I began one day when I went to visit Bella.
“Ask me what?” She asked.
“How did you convince him that I sent you because the Pop I know is very reserved when it comes to interacting with strangers? Now, you both have coined a nickname for each other.” I said.
“Oh! About that… it wasn’t an easy introduction. When I knocked on the door to speak with him, he made me look like a stalker. It was when I showed him our chat that he believed me and let me into the house…” She said.
I sat for about thirty minutes listening to her gist. I wasn’t surprised though; Pop was just being Pop.
“That was one interesting gist. So what is the relationship between you two?” I asked coyly.
“Relationship as in? Oh! We are just friends.” She responded almost immediately.
“Hmmm… that’s how it starts though.” I said.
We went on to update each other on other things.
“It is good to know that you two are friends. At least, I can embark on my trip next semester.” I chipped in.
“What trip are you talking about?” She asked.
“Dianne invited me to spend the mid-semester break at her home.” I replied.
“That is lovely but is Luke, sorry, I mean your dad, aware of this?” She asked.
“No, I intend to tell her much later.” I answered.
“Alright, it’s fine. So any boy yet?” She asked.
“Bee… I told you that when there is one, you’d be the first to know.” I replied.
“Yeah, you said so…” she replied accepting defeat.
“How do Chad and Chelsea feel around him?” I asked.
I wanted to know since I remembered their reaction when I tried to approach them the last time I visited her.
“Oh! Those kids… Surprisingly, they warmed up to him the first time I took them to visit your dad.” She replied.
“Wow! You don’t mean it!” I uttered in astonishment.
“Yes. That day, I had to convince them that they would visit him the next day because they were reluctant to leave him at dusk.” She added.
“That’s nice. I know Pop to be great with kids though. I mean, look at me; he did a great job raising me.” I said, super proud of Pop.
“You’re right.” She agreed.
