The lecturer had been talking for only thirty minutes but it seemed like three hours. I looked at my wristwatch… one hundred and fifty minutes to go. My eyes had already become heavy. I needed a distraction. Then, my phone vibrated.

“Hello Charis!”

I had received a message on Telegram. I checked it. It was an unknown number but since Dianne told me that Jake requested for my number, I assumed it was him. Perfect distraction.

“Hi Jake.” I replied.

“How did you know it was I?” He replied

“A simple guess.” I replied.

“That is impressive. Are you busy?” He asked.

“Kinda. I am in class.” I replied.

“Oh! I am sorry.” He typed.

“It’s fine. It is super boring.” I replied.

“Kindly beep me when you are done then; I would like to know all about the boring lecture.” He said.

“With pleasure. Later.” I replied.

“Later.” He replied.

By the time I dropped my phone, the sleep had disappeared. That was timely. Now I can focus.

“Beep!” I typed.

“Done?” He asked.

“Yes. How about we do a call instead cos I am walking to the hostel or are you busy at the moment?” I asked.

My phone began to ring. I picked up.

“Yeah…” I said.

“So about the boring lecture…” He began.

“Yes about that.” I replied and told him about the lecture…

“Sorry about that.” He said.

“Thank you” I responded.

“What do you do during your leisure time?” He asked.

“A lot of things” I answered.

“…Like?” He asked.
